Blogiversary Contest Begins and Two Winners
First the Two Winners (then the Actual Blogiversary Contest):
On Saturday afternoon, Janet of Twisted Knitter submitted the 1000th comment to Molecular Knitting. In her comment she mentioned that the Sockomo Autumn yarn wanted to go live with her. I hadn’t decided which yarn to give for each prize, and I thought it would be pretty bitchy to tell her she was Commenter 1000 but she had to take a different yarn, so the Sockomo Autumn will be finding a home with her (she was more than ecstatic in reply to my email). She also chose Anne’s Orchid Lace Scarf from Knitspot, an excellent choice, as I intend to order a copy of that for myself as well (I may even have an order from Knitpicks on the way with some yarn for that scarf and the mitts–the pattern for the mitts is coming soon). Art Deco lace rocks.
Thank you to everyone who submitted a suggestion in the Pre-Blogiversary Contest Contest (PBCC)! They were all excellent ideas. One, however, really struck me as appropriate for a First Blogiversary Contest. That idea came from Kim of Knits with a Silent K, who is a knitting fiend when it comes to knitting donations for charity or handknits with a UC-Berkeley (Cal) theme. Kim has won the Seacoast Merino/Tencel and also a Knitspot pattern, although I don’t know which one she wants yet.
Actual First Blogiversary Contest!!
This contest, in the words of Kim, will be like a blog-hosted state fair. To enter, leave a comment telling what your favorite FO of the past 12 months is that you have completed (whatever craft) and why it’s your fave. If you can leave a link to the FO post or to an online picture of the FO that would be most excellent, however, I’m not making that essential to entering. The contest will close at the last minute of August, so leave your comment before the clock strikes midnight on Friday evening in PDT. I hope this is both easy and fun. Everyone who comments with a favorite FO will go into a random drawing. A skein of sumptuous Sleeping Dragon sock yarn in Pool and a Knitspot pattern of the winner’s choosing are the prizes!
I suppose I should post my favorite FO since I’ve started blogging. It’s the Landscape Shawl from Fibertrends that I knit in CTH Supersock Green Mountain Madness. It came out like it was supposed to, the colors are great, and people who know me are amazed that I could knit it (that’ s a bit lowering actually). It became a little tedious toward the end, but it was all worth it, and when it is cool I wear it often.
So, what was your favorite FO of the past year? We all want to know…
It is such a great FO. Mine would definitely be my Anemoi mittens. They were definitely a huge confidence booster, and since then, I am not intimidated to try all sorts of knitting projects that I would have avoided before:

Beautifully done, Brenda. You’ve every right to display your shawl with pride! My favorite FO this year is also a shawl, in the person of Forest Canopy; not because it’s complex. but just because it was my first *finished* piece of lace larger than a sock!
Your shawl is just the loveliest! I just loooove the green variegated colour. Hmmm…I think mine would have to be Dalarna. Cheery red and white, warm and my first Norwegian stranded project.
Here’s my link!

And congrats to your winners – yay them!
I love that shawl! Simple, but effectively making the most out of the yarn and creating a very well used object at the same time. So, using that same criteria – I’d have to say my favorite FO of the past year is my Simple Knitted Bodice. It’s like a comfortable pair of jeans (and the fact that it’s made out of Denim Silk means it kinda feels like it too).

Beautiful shawl!!
My favorite finished object of 2007 is the hoodie that knit for my son. Incredibly simple pattern, but so, so cute and very practical so far. It’s already been worn a lot!
http://yogurtandgranola.blogspot.com/2007/06/finished-object-report.html
Thanks for the fun contests!
Hmm, it’s a toss-up between the Refined Raglan and the Shapely Shawlette.
My favorite FO…would have to be the Candle Flames (I think that’s the name) Stole from Knit Picks done in Blue Heron cotton in the Water Hyacinth color. Pictures of it are on my Flickr page here –
http://www.flickr.com/photos/7318819@N02/
I’m so happy with it, I even entered it in our State Fair!
Beautiful shawl!
My favorite FO of the past year has to be my very first pair of socks. Here they are: http://mysteryhouse.typepad.com/miss_ts_mystery_house_of_/2007/02/pool_baby_pool.html
For me it’s a tie. My favorites have been the Forest Canopy Shawl in yarn by Piece of Vermont, and the handspun socks I finished while we were up at our knitting Packwood weekend in May.
My favorite FO from last year are my entrelac mittens. They were really fun to make and I love how they turned out!
http://www.scrapovers.com/blog/?p=141
That shawl is just lovely; you should be very proud!
My favourite FO of the year has got to be my red Monkey socks: the pattern was additively fun (sock knitting is always a treat for me), and these were made from yarn I both spun and dyed all by myself, first time ever! I love them.
You can see them here:
http://aemmeleia.wordpress.com/2007/06/25/fo-and-psa/
Oddly enough, my favorite FO in the past year was the Cherry Tree Hill Green Mountain Madness Feather and Fan socks. The yarn was divine to work with…the pattern is so pretty, and the socks are wonderful to wear! What better? Here they are:

(((hugs)))
Happy Blogiversary! What a neat contest 🙂 I really like your shawl– it looks so cozy.
Hmm, my Anemoi Mittens were a close second, but I think I’ll have to say my Sidewinders were my favorite FO for 2007 (so far). They’re socks, which I’ve been doing a lot of recently, they’re innovative, and they’re made with my favorite sock yarn– Wollmeise!
http://www.elevenstitches.com/eleven_stitches/2007/08/both-sidewinder.html
My favourite FO of the past year was the first pair of socks I ever made (basic stockinette). I’m fairly new to knitting, and even though they aren’t perfect and aren’t the nicest project I’ve made they were the first one that really made me feel like a knitter.
Well my favorite FO would have to be my second pair of Jaywalkers, in yarn I dyed myself. I actually had to think pretty hard for this one, because I barely finished anything this year! Started a lot of projects, but not many finished. I do love the Jaywalkers pattern though, it’s so easy to remember, and it’s one of the few patterns that are better in a variegated yarn.
Happy blogiversary!
my beltaine shawl:)
My entrelac socks are my favourite FO of this year. I blogged them here: http://yarnfloozies.blogspot.com/2007/06/ridiculously-far-behind.html
The first sock was so frustrating that I almost had second sock syndrome, but after leaving it alone for a week, I whipped out the second sock in just a few days of intense knitting. It was fun, and the long repeats of Trekking makes for a gorgeous entrelac colour pattern.
In the last 12 months I was crazy enough to knit a full-sized afghan. Lotsa Kureyon, Lotsa love. (and I just won sweepstakes at the MN fair! wOOt!)
pics here:http://kitchencotton.blogspot.com/2007/08/lizard-ridge.html
Can I say most of them? I liked the ‘we call them pirates’ hat, I did several in worsted, my favorite was fuschia and orange, loved the brightness, here, http://knitnzu.com/?p=81. And here’s one that I loved for its pure silliness, the ‘naughty squiddy’, http://knitnzu.com/?p=44 (no comments on these old posts because I switched blog host and didn’t carry over the comments, just the posts)
To tell the truth, just finishing ANYTHING is my fav. I have a real promblem getting anything done. How about socks, got lots of singles. But at least one was done!
My absolute favorite knit of the last year would be Anne Hanson’s Wing ‘O the Moth shawl.
It’s my favorite for several reasons:
1. I was part of the Lantern Rouge race and was able to knit this pattern in a race with some very fine ladies.
2.) I knit it in Louet’s KidLin Pixie, which is an unusual combination of a very fine mohair strand with a fine linen strand. It was wonderful to feel the yarn soften as I knit with it and know that wearing the shawl would make it softer still. And, it’s green!!!
3.) Anne’s magnificent pattern. It was always fun, challenging and ever-changing.
It’s one of the pieces of knitting that I am proudest of – truly an heirloom. And who would have believed I could knit that fast? 3 weeks baby.

I’m so impressed with everyone’s entries! Mine is my recently completed Cal sweater. I really love how it came out, and I stretched my techniques with the grafting of the collar and my first intarsia.

I sort of feel like the mosaic of photos I posted on the blog entry didn’t show off the sweater nearly as well as an individual photo – live and learn!
And a very happy blogiversary to you! I might steal your/my idea for my own blogiversary!
I love your shawl! I haven’t had the patience yet to attempt something like that. My favorite project was the vest I made from the Vogue Winter ’05 issue. The stiches look nice and even, the yarn has a nice feel, and it turned out pretty much exactly how I pictured it. 🙂
What a beautiful shawl!
My favorite FO of this year is one that I finished before I began my blog in March. I finished my first sweater in February. A real sweater, with sleeves and everything! It’s the Pinup Queen sweater from Stitch and Bitch by Debbie Stoller. I love it!
I really like the scarf that I made my FIL for Christmas. I like the pattern, and the finished product, and it was fun to knit. I also love that my FIL requested the scarf (to match the mittens he requested the year before, and the hat the year before that …) and really likes it. The pattern is from the 2006 Knitting Pattern A Day calendar.
There’s a photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/30498041@N00/900338473/in/set-72157600410231981/
Nice FO! 🙂 I like that the pattern is so simple yet so pretty. 🙂
I have to say that my fave FO of the year is the pair of socks I made for a Harry Potter Sock Swap. It was my first time knitting socks for someone else, and my first Swap. In addition to knitting, I also took the socks with me during my summer travels and took all sorts of dork pictures of them everywhere I went. 😉

This disgustingly cute baby blanket is definitely my favorite. I think it came out beautifully! http://stitchnsue.blogspot.com/2007/06/too-damn-cute.html
Have a happy bloggiversary!
My favorite FO is the shawl I made for my Mom’s trip to Hawaii this coming October. It is the first project I have ever had to block out on a surface larger than a sweater-drying thingy. I haven’t posted a picture of it yet, but did blog about buying the yarn here –> http://home.earthlink.net/~mouseywerks/mouseyblog/2007.06.01_arch.html#1181435067901
I’m enjoying looking at everyone’s FOs – wow, what a talented bunch!
beautiful shawl. I have to admit i am pretty happy with the results of my MS3 stole. I enjoyed the community involved with the knitting proecess, seeing the item knit so differently by those involved, and learning a new trick (the beads). I enjoyed looking forward to the new clue and not knowing exactlly what i was knitting!
I love your shawl!
My favorite finished object of the year is a lace stole that I completed in June just in time to wear it to my parents’ 50th anniversary party. The saga was a long one but I think the finished item was well worth it. Pictures and part of the story here:
Ok, I screwed up the link.

My favorite FO from the last year is a quilt…
http://papertigerknits.typepad.com/paper_tiger_knits/2007/02/what_are_you_mo.html
This is an easy one B! My absolute favorite finished object was Special K’s Seamless Hybrid. It was my first finished adult sweater and it came out perfectly. After I finished it, I knew that I could tackle any project through sheer determination!http://www.archivistontheedge.com/archivist_on_the_edge/2007/01/love_hate.html
My favorite FO of the past year was my very first pair of gloves. My son has long fingers and it was difficult finding him a pair of gloves. I got over my fear of gloves being too difficult (they were really easy!) and knit him some: http://stitchyfingerz.blogspot.com/2007/08/black-gloves-are-finished.html
I love the shawl! I am so scared to try one.
My favorite FO of the past past year is tied between Klisa
http://knittykittykat.blogspot.com/2007/05/overdue-pictures.html
(which she has yet to wear)
and Monica
http://knittykittykat.blogspot.com/2007/07/still-catching-up.html
(she has worn hers once at least)
Brenda- I love that shawl of yours- it’s brilliance is the simplicity and the way it makes you feel. A success all around.
What great timing- I have finished my Fair Isle Coat-
http”//sheriffofknittingham.blogspot.com
It’s the August 28 post.
What a great idea! (Much better than mine, lol!)
I have a lot of favorite pictures, but this is probably my favorite, since it shows off my handsome hubby being a goofball. He’s wearing a sweater I designed called “Classic Twist Pullover”.
http://bp3.blogger.com/_tNl6IGnVUGs/Rj5Lyb5-9mI/AAAAAAAAA3k/K6No_ODVSvs/s320/tractor1.jpg
My favorite FO has to be the Chuppah (wedding canopy) I made for my best friend – a lace-knitting extravaganza! Link here: http://knittingunderway.blogspot.com/2007/07/photos-youve-all-been-waiting-for.html
My Favorite FO over the last 12months was just completed a few days ago actually. Its an Illusion Cable Scarf that I knitted as a present for my friend’s birthday this Sunday. I’m blogless or I would give you a link to it…I’m so proud of it I to want show everyone. It look so fluffy and really like real Cables. I found the patter on BlackdogDesigns.
Maybe I can send you in an email. If you care to see…just send me an and I’ll send it back to you.
Oh Brenda…a blogiversary! Congratulations. Your shawl is just gorgeous. Beautiful work! My favorite FO this past year is Embossed Leaves Socks. I posted on them here: http://busybeaknits.blogspot.com/2007/07/baseball-and-knittingwhat-pair.html
Hope you have many more blogiversaries.
Ooh, that’s a great idea for a contest! Congrats on your blogiversary too.
My favorite FO is the hourglass sweater that I actually finished a few weeks ago:
http://sticksandthread.blogspot.com/2007/08/ive-got-blues.html
(Pics of the sweater are further down that post, there are also some socks in there too).
The sweater is so comfy and warm.
As a relatively new knitter of real things (other than scarfs!), I think my favorite finished object so far is my Forest Canopy Shawl:
http://doeslizknit.blogspot.com/2007/04/finished-product.html
Depending on how my current knit come out, FiFi may become my new favorite though!
Congrats on the -versary!
One of my favorite FO’s was some baby pants from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. So quick and too cute. I unfortunately forgot to take a picture before I gifted them to a coworker.
My favorite FO this year was my Arwen sweater.
I loved so many things about this project
-the yarn was wonderful to work with
-it was my first time knitting cables
-I knit it as a knit-along with my best friend Abbey
-it turned out gorgeous!
http://craftingchaos.com/?p=70
my favorite fo this year is my rusted root because it’s the first sweater that i started and actually finished! and liked enough to wear even! 🙂
Happy blogoversary! Your favorite FO is beautiful! I love the different shades of blue in the shawl.
I think that my favorite finished object of the year was the log cabin baby blankie (found here: http://yarnandcocktails.blogspot.com/2007/05/when-does-life-slow-down.html). There was great inspiration (from the Gee’s Bend quilts), the colors were great, I’d been wanting to do a log cabin for a while. But part of the favorite-ness comes from the fact that I gifted it away about 12 hours after finishing!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, Brenda! I’m so excited about the Fleece Artist (I just recently bought my FIRST Fleece Artist and it is WONDERFUL!)
Hmmm . . . if I had to choose my favorite FO of the year, it would have to be my Dragon Scale Scarf
The Malabrigo laceweight is simply DIVINE!
I found your blog via Twisted Knitter and am looking forward to exploring your archives. Since you asked, my favorite recent FO is the Elizabeth Zimmerman February Sweater I made for my cousin’s baby. It my first EZ project, used sentimental yarn, and it turned out beautifully. There are pics here
Congrats on the blogiversary.
Oops, missed the deadline but happy belated blogiversary wishes! I’m happiest with my first pair of socks (with a heel) that I finished in January. I used the Yarn Harlot’s sock recipe and all went well. Well, instead of fitting me, they fit my DH but that’s okay. 😀
I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well. But it was interesting! Look for some my links:
