Chevron Scarf: Pattern Notes
I wove the ends in on the Chevron Scarf this evening after not knitting all weekend. I needed a weekend to read fiction, and I can’t read and knit simultaneously. So I read two 300+ page novels and didn’t knit. But now it’s time to knit again, and so I’ll clear the decks and get this FO post done. The Chevron Scarf blocked out better than I had hoped.
Yarns: Fleece Artist Merino sock yarn in Burgundy and Woodland (I have over 75 g left of each 115 g skein!!) Striped socks?
Needles: US size 4 Clover bamboo
Blocked dimensions: 6.5 x 44 inches (I wanted a short scarf)
Stitch pattern: 1 stitch at each edge in garter, which folded under very nicely, leaving a clean edge, then between these garter edge stitches, 3 repeats of 15 stitches (cast on 47 st):
Row 1 (RS): *K2tog, K5, YO, K1, YO, K5, Sl1, K1, psso*
Row 2: Purl
Repeat these 2 rows for pattern.
I used a cable cast-on and used a size 6 needle for binding off. There are two rows of stockinette after the cast-on before starting the pattern and two rows before binding off, both in the burgundy yarn. Easy peasy and nice and pointy.
The scarf was just glad to finally get to meet the coat of its dreams, my “black coffee” brown, wide-wale corduroy peacoat:
Finally, doll face, we’re together! The perfect harmony of chevron merino and black coffee corduroy.–Chevron Scarf.
Who are you?–Coffee Peacoat.
I’m your destiny. We are meant to be together for all time.–CS
Well, I hope you don’t think this is an exclusive deal. I happen to know there’s going to be a lot more scarf knitting going on at chez Molecular Knitting. And if you think I’m going to stick only with you when I know there’s a red sportweight alpaca scarf on the horizon, you need your head examined.–CP
You wound me, angel! I don’t match any of her other jackets or coats! I need you to be true.–CS
If I had a dime for every two-bit merino scarf that sang that sad song, I’d have a diamond stick pin in my lapel.–CP
Perhaps it’s best if we leave this sad little scene. I’ll try to find something else that I can also wear with the chevron scarf. I had no idea my peacoat was such heartless coat about town! It must get very bored with just me to wear her.
Well, I’m off to work on the pink cabled-rib sock. Time’s running out on my self-imposed deadline.
Happy knitting, everyone!
ETA: M ran a daiquiri experiment on Sunday. You can read about it on Cocktails with M. It was very tasty!
I love peacoats. Yours looks nice, especially with the scarf. Nice work. 🙂
Oh, that scarf is beautiful! And I do believe I have that colourway of FA yarn…
Brenda- I think that scarf will look great with just about anything.
Question- how do cocktails and knitting mix?
Beautiful! Definitely a perfect match for that coat. 🙂
Beautiful job! It does look like it will go well with your jacket, even if it is a little uppity.
Peacoats are the best! And that scarf matches beautifully!
The scarf looks great! 🙂
Love that scarf! I just finished a lace scarf with the same pattern, only it was 3 stitches in between instead of 5. I can’t believe I bought the pattern from CTH.
That is a beautiful color combination. And it looks great withthte coat. beautiful work!
Well, I think it’s fantastic! I love the finished product and it will truly work well with all sorts of outfits, jackets and coats, I think. Great job!
Wow, I love the scarf! Now I want one, and it never even gets that cold in SoCal (actually, a nice light scarf like that might be useful). I had a plum corduroy coat that was similarly cruel and heartless, but boy was it cute!
Gorgeous chevron – thanks for sharing the pattern details. And I hope you’re out shopping for something else to wear the scarf with. 😉
Oh Brenda! I LOVE this scarf…makes me want to rip out the Koigu Chevron Scarf I’m making from *that book* and make yours! It looks as if it doesn’t curl AT ALL!!!! (which I cannot say about mine….)
(((hugs)))
Oh, I don’t blame your pea coat for want a change of scenery now and again! lol!
wow! they look great together. i freaking love your scarf. this is the one that’s really making me want to jump on that bandwagon. it turned out fab!!!
Awesome scarf!! I need to block mine – I love how you can see the yo’s in yours!
hi there!
I’m ready for my first chevron and I love your pattern!
I’m sure I can figure it out..but did I miss where you said what your cast-on number was?
Thanks! ~Pia
Hi Brenda
Absolutely love your Chevron Scarf and would like to make it for my granddaughter attending college in MA. However, I am new to knitting and wonder if you would share the number of stitches to cast on? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
chloe
Wow… two 300+ page novels in one weekend? Seems like you have too much time on your hands… Nice scarf though.
Just thought I’d let all you new knitters know that the cast on count is a multiple of 15+2. I cast on a total of 47 to get the same stitch count as the scarf in the picture.
How many stitches did you cast on? I’ve looked throughout and I can’t find the number anywhere. I love the scarf and would love to knit it. Thanks so much!
Lovely scarf!
One question – how much did you cast on?
Thanks a bunch!
Hi Brenda,
Thanks for putting this pattern up on Ravelry. How can something so easy turn out this well? Amazing!
Nice, but I will knit M1 (k1FB) in place of the YO’s for a chevron pattern without the lace look.
Gorgeous colours, btw!
Thanks for posting this on Ravelry! LOVE this! Looks wonderful. I have just the yarn I want to make this out of. 😉
Well good, at least I’m not the only one scrounging to fsinih the projects I started. Poor Dan, he may be out 2 xmas presents if I don’t get my act togehter. I love your idea though! Can’t wait to see it.
Thank you for this pattern, Brenda. I made it with Bernet Mosiac yarn and size 8 needle. It turned out very beautiful. Great weight for a winter scarf! And with the leftover yarn I made a hat and fingerless gloves. Wish I could find a chevron hat pattern like it.
I’ve started this as a beginner and it looks great.. but I’m worried about ending it. How does it end up pointed at the other end??
Very pretty scarf I am just wondering how you get the points in the beginning and the end of the scarf if you are knitting 2 rows of stockinette before starting the pattern rows?
Thank you for posting such a beautiful scarf!!
I have a project my grandmother started before she passed away it is very similar to this but is is a knit and purl stitch with the chevron zig zags and the holes (I do not know these stitches)
Hi Brenda,
I love this pattern. I’m a single mom trying to make some extra money from home by knitting things and I was wondering if you would be okay with me selling scarves I make using this pattern providing I give you credit for the design.
I love this scarf – I made it using quviut yarn and it turned out beautifully. Thank you for sharing this pattern..
Beautiful scarf, thanks for sharing. I recommend audiobooks to solve the reading vs knitting problem when facing a time crunch.
